24. The Darrin Syndrome

Dick York, who was cast in the role of Darrin Stephens, quit the show because of a chronic back injury. He had managed to work with it for some time, but was forced to retire from the show by 1969. Of course, Stephens’ role was not erased on the sitcom. The character was replaced by Dick Sargent.

After that, changing actors for the same role came to be known as the “Darrin Syndrome.”
