21. Dick Sargent Was Meant to Be

As we’ve seen, Richard Crenna was one of the first choices to play Darrin Stephens, but Crenna turned down the role. Another actor who was offered the role was actually Dick Sargent. However, Sargent landed another job while the Bewitched producers were making their final casting decisions. So Sargent, too, turned down the role. That’s when ABC finally offered the part to Dick York. And as fans know, in a weird twist of magical(?) fate, Sargent would eventually take the role when York was forced to retire.
