Back in the
1960s, Elizabeth Montgomery was a rising star in film and TV. She had
started her career in 1953 and continued to land role after role on TV
and in movies. She was in her early 30s when she landed the part of
Samantha Stephens, Bewitched’s lead character. The photo on the left shows Montgomery in a publicity photo for Johnny Cool, a 1963 movie released just before Bewitched
premiered. Looking at Montgomery decades later, one might argue that
she used some sort of anti-aging magic to stay looking so youthful.
Just how popular was Montgomery during Bewitched‘s run? She
was nominated for Best Actress at both the Primetime Emmys (five times)
and Golden Globes (four times). However, she never brought home either
award.
